Rotary clubs hear scholar

Shelly Alpeter, Rotary ambassadorial scholar for 2008-09, was a guest of the Youngstown Rotary Club on Oct. 7 and of Austintown Rotary Club on Oct. 12.

Alpeter, of Paris, Ohio, was awarded a year’s scholarship to attend a university in Granada, Spain. There she studied in an accelerated master’s program, packing two years of classes into one year, and participated in volunteer projects. Her major field of study is translation of Spanish for consumer issues and businesses. Rotary International gave her $23,000 to cover living, tuition, and travel expenses. At the end of her year, she was able to return $8,000 for future ambassadors.
