Pittsburgh-based Eat’n Park decides to close Park Classic Diner in Boardman

BOARDMAN — The Park Classic Diner at South Avenue and Boardman-Poland Road is closing at noon Sunday.

Eat’n Park, a Pittsburgh-based company that operated the restaurant, will focus on other parts of its operation, including its namesake restaurants, said Kevin O’Connell, a company spokesman. The Eat’n Park restaurants on Market Street in Boardman and in Austintown will remain open.

The company had opened three diners, but the Boardman location was the last one to remain in business. The others in Monroeville, Pa., and Jeanette, Pa., were closed earlier this year.

O’Connell said business at the diners was OK but not good enough to justify continued attention from the company.

The Boardman diner opened in 2004 after a Pizza Hut tore down a restaurant on the site and opened a new location on South Avenue. O’Connell said Eat’n Park does not own the property but is working on finding a tenant for the site.

Eat’n Park has had more success with a downtown Pittsburgh restaurant called Six Penn Kitchen and two contract food operations, he said. Cura Hospitality provides food for retirement communities and hospitals, while Park Hurst Dining Services has contracts with universities, businesses and cultural centers.
