YOUNGSTOWN — The trial of a former Youngstown State University union president charged with menacing has been set for 9 a.m. Jan. 19.
It’s the fourth time the trial date for Ivan Maldonado, 41, of Boardman, has been scheduled.
The case, a single misdemeanor count of menacing, is being heard by Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. in Youngstown Municipal Court. It was originally set for June but was subsequently moved to August and then October before the latest change. It will be a jury trial.
Maldonado was arrested near the beginning of April based on a complaint filed by another member of the Association of Classified Employees union at YSU in March. Maldonado was president of the union at that time.
The complainant told university police she felt threatened by Maldonado’s comments during a March 10 telephone call she said he made to her on campus.
The university placed Maldonado on paid administrative leave a short time later and fired him in July on allegations of making threats against other university employees and unsatisfactory performance of his duties in the university’s payroll office.
The ACE union has filed grievances against the university over his termination, seeking his reinstatement.
He was a 20-year employee of YSU.
