Miriam Chapter conducts 102nd installation


YOUNGSTOWN — Miriam Chapter 278, Order of Eastern Star, inducted a slate of officers on Oct. 12 during its 102nd installation ceremony.

Assuming the responsibilities of various offices were: Leeann Mason, worthy matron; Allen Bohr, worthy patron; Carol Bohr, associate matron; Robert Ellway, associate patron; Merry Beth Vargo, conductress; Deborah Wagner, associate conductress; Judy Elliott, secretary; Elberta Scott, treasurer; Gene Woodworth, marshal; Russell W. Gillam Jr., chaplain; Marion Brownlee, organist; Linda Woolford, Ada; Laurie Hernandez, Ruth; Blanche Costanza, Esther; Jean Layne, Martha; Wilma Payne, Electa; Jean Mook, warder; and Jean McClure, sentinel.

Serving as pages will be Alice Wilds, Louise Waddell, Shirley Jacobs and Geraldine Thompson. Prompter will be Jean Olzak.

Serving as host in the East was Matthew Mason, who presented a gavel to the incoming president, whose theme will be “Treasures in Our Lives.”

Susan Gillam, who completed her fourth term as worthy matron, was awarded a past matron’s pin, a gift from Dr. John and Merry Beth Vargo.

Officiating in the East at the event were Bruce Ailes, worthy grand patron of the grand chapter of Ohio, and his wife, Joyce, grand representative of California in Ohio. Installing officers included James Streeky, chaplain; Raella Baker, marshal; and Rose Marie Roth, organist.
