Mineral Ridge holds off Crestview in ITCL upset
COLUMBIANA — Dan Skiba scored two touchdowns and the Mineral Ridge defense stopped a game-tying two-point conversion with 1:47 remaining to upset Crestview, 15-13, in an Inter Tri-County League Tier One game on Friday night.
The Rams (5-4, 4-2) held a potent Crestview (8-1, 5-1) rushing attack to just 114 yards, more than 200 below its average.
Skiba’s first touchdown, a 60-yard pass from Jesse Garland, was followed by a two-point conversion pass from Zach Kiger to Kyle Skiba, giving Mineral Ridge an 8-7 lead with 4:46 remaining in the third quarter.
The score came just 15 seconds after Adam Britton broke a scoreless tie with a 14-yard run and Tristan Reynolds’ kick.
Dan Skiba made it 14-7 with 2:43 remaining in the game on a 16-yard run, and Mike Keleman added the extra point.
Crestview rallied, with Carter Hill passing to Jacob Danks from 18 yards out with 1:47 to go.
But the Rebels’ two-point pass was ruled incomplete.
McDonald 14, Southern 7
SALINEVILLE — Nick Cupan rushed 24 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns as McDonald survived three turnovers to clinch a share of the ITCL Tier Two crown.
Devin Bansberg added 56 yards rushing for the Blue Devils (9-0, 6-0), who can clinch the title outright with a win over Leetonia.
McDonald entered the game third in the Division VI, Region 21 ratings and was ranked seventh in the latest AP poll.
Luke Griffith scored for Southern (3-6, 1-5).
United 33, South Range 0
NORTH LIMA — Defense was the key as South Range was only able to gain 67 yards offensively off United. The Eagles (4-5, 3-3 ITCL Tier One) also forced four fumbles, recovering one, and two interceptions as they held South Range (2-7, 1-5) scoreless.
Zach Taylor started the scoring for United with a 7-yard rushing touchdown. Brett Ward would later follow that up with one of his own, a 48 yard rush. Ward lead United’s ground game with 93 yards on 13 carries. Josh McLaughlin would score twice, and Ryan Powell returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown.
Columbiana 28, Lisbon 0
COLUMBIANA — Jeff Davidson rushed for 221 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Columbiana at Firestone Park.
The Clippers (7-2, 4-2 ITCL Tier One) gained 380 yards, all on the ground, to keep Lisbon (0-9, 0-6) winless.
Grant Crider and Austin Barbato also scored TDs for Columbiana. Barbato finished with 118 yards on the ground.
Josh Cook rushed for 58 yards to lead Lisbon and Robert Wilcox added 48.
Lowellville 20, Wellsville 8
LOWELLVILLE — Evan Filip had 107 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Rockets (5-4, 5-1 ITCL Tier Two) past Wellsville. Bryan Seidita also returned a 70 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
The Tiger’s (6-3, 3-3) got an early lead when Jeremy Carter ran in a 55 yard touchdown, but that’s all they would get before Lowellville took over.
Jackson-Milton 12, Sebring 0
NORTH JACKSON — Brendan Morrison and Wilbur Wilson combined for 304 rushing yards and both TDs to lead Jackson-Milton (2-7, 1-6 ITCL Tier Two).
Morrison had 170 yards and Wilson added 134 for the Bluejays, and Rob Roessler rushed for 80.
Dakota Wagner rushed for 44 yards and caught two passes for 40 yards to lead Sebring (1-8, 0-6).
