Clothing, food drives set in Cortland

CORTLAND — The Rotary Club of Cortland will host its annual Poorest of the Poor clothing drive and Cortland Area Cares food and donation drive from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at the Lakeview High School bus garage, 330 Hillman Drive.

The Poorest of the Poor clothing drive helps families and individuals in the Appalachian Mountain regions of Kentucky and West Virginia.

Only clean new, old or used clothing (pants, shirts, dresses, coats, jackets, sweaters, etc.) of any size for men, women and children will be accepted. No shoes, boots or purses will be accepted. Clothing must be in plastic bags, paper bags or boxes.

The Cortland Area Cares food and donation drive is intended to provide food and financial support for the local food pantry, Cortland Areas Cares.

Assistance is provided to those who reside primarily within the Lakeview school district or are supported by the member churches of the Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship ministry.

Food items that are especially needed are canned and boxed foods such as soups, fruits, jellies, beans, cereals, macaroni and cheese, Hamburger Helper, Rice-A-Roni or similar nonperishable items.
