NASA will test Cleveland-designed rocket

CLEVELAND (AP) — Work done at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland will be central to Tuesday’s test flight of a new generation rocket for taking astronauts to the moon.

The Glenn center built the $53 million upper stage simulator atop the 215-ton rocket.

The test flight from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida will last 25 miles, or just over two minutes.

The Ares I-X rocket is thin and tall at 327 feet. Much of it is a mock-up, and no person or payload will be on board the test flight.
