Salem, Southeast advance in volleyball

BOARDMAN — Salem High advanced to the Division II district volleyball tournament with a win over Crestwood on Wednesday.

The scores were 25-9, 25-11, 25-16.

Amy Scullion led the Quakers with six aces, 15 kills and two blocks, while Mariah Halleck added seven kills and Laura Brown had 31 assists.

Crestwood was led by Caitlin Goggin with five points, six assists and four digs.

The Quakers will meet Southeast in the district semifinal on Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.

Southeast defeated Poland, 25-12, 25-20, 25-12, as Tricia Williams had 14 points and six digs, while Emily Gahagan added nine points, two aces and 12 kills.

Poland was led by Amanda Molaskey with two points and 13 assists, Leanna Yeager’s five kills and three blocks and Alexis Hertz’s 14 digs and four points.

Division III

LEAVITTSBURG — Champion defeated Pymatuning Valley, 25-17, 25-23, 25-13, at LaBrae High.

Jessica Nicholas had 13 kills and six blocks, while Megan Frantz added 13 points and 14 assists and Lindsay Swipas had five aces.

Py Valley was led by Josey Workman with six kills and three blocks.

Division I

STOW — Cuyahoga Falls, behind Erin Wilson’s 11 points, six aces, 11 kills and three blocks, defeated Chaney, 25-16, 25-14, 25-13.

Adrienne Petrone added seven digs for the Tigers (13-10). Chaney finished the year 10-9.

Division IV

LISBON — Kayla Menz and Steffany Armstrong each had 12 service points to lead Mathews (21-2) past Leetonia, 25-16, 25-14, 25-10, at Lisbon High School.

Megan O’Dell added four aces, 10 kills and four blocks. Menz also had 21 assists and Jonna Omerzo 22 digs.

Leetonia finished the season 10-12.

Wellsville 21-25-24-15, Lordstown 25-22-10-26-5

LISBON — Shantae Dillard had 13 kills and four aces while Sarah Drysdale added 20 kills to lead Wellsville. Noelle Amato added 35 assists and McKenna Pierson six kills.

Lordstown was led by Katie Bellay with 18 points and 10 kills, while Chelsea Moherman had 17 assists and 132 sets. Caitlynne Cassidy finished with five aces and nine blocks.

Kirtland 25-25-25, Southington 16-23-13

KINSMAN — Kirtland took three straight sets to eliminate Southington at Badger High School.
