Convict gets additional prison time for assault on corrections officer, weapons possession


YOUNGSTOWN — An inmate at the Ohio State Penitentiary will be spending additional years behind bars.

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court sentenced Dajuan R. Burns, 23, to 13 additional years in prison at a hearing today.

A jury of five men and seven women found Burns guilty of possessing a sharp metal object and felonious assault on a corrections officer after a three-day trial.

Judge Krichbaum sentenced Burns to five years on the weapons charges and eight years on the felonious assault charge. The charges are to run consecutively.
