Canfield advances to earn match against Boardman


STOW — Cara Cupler scored 16 points with seven aces as the Canfield High volleyball team defeated Akron Garfield on Tuesday at the Division I tournament at Stow High.

Rachael O’Hara had 10 assists as the Cardinals (13-12) won by scores of 25-5, 25-5, 25-15. Akron Garfield finished 7-13.

For Canfield, Ellie Rafoth had 12 points and four aces while Alissa Kelty made eight kills and two blocks. Sabrina Mangapora made six kills and two blocks while Kendal Malsch made seven kills.

Saturday at 5:30 p.m., the Cardinals will play Boardman.

Louisville (14-5) eliminated Akron East by scores of 25-5, 25-8, 25-4.

Division IV

LISBON — The Jackson-Milton, Columbiana and Crestview High teams advanced in the tournament at Lisbon High.

The fourth-seeded Bluejays (12-10) ousted 13th-seeded Sebring by scores of 26-24, 25-12, 25-15.

Amanda Miller scored 12 points with seven aces and made 13 kills. Maddie Griffiths had 18 assists and 42 sets while Brianna Vayner made five blocks.

For the Trojans (3-17), Emily Dickens had nine points and six digs while Ashley Meiter scored eight points. Taylor Ward contributed seven points, five kills and three blocks.

Seventh-seeded Columbiana (12-10) defeated Lowellville by scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.

Katie Witmer scored 14 points with seven aces and made six kills for the Clippers. Marie Voitus made 31 assists, Meredith Tirpak had six kills and four blocks, and Jordan Stoddard made 10 kills.

Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the Clippers and Bluejays will play.

Tenth-seeded Crestview defeated ninth-seeded Southern by scores of 22-25, 27-25, 13-25, 25-22, 15-10.

Shanelle Davner made 24 kills and four blocks while Chelsea Caudill scored 10 points with six aces and made six kills and 12 digs for the Rebels (6-17).

Brittany Gisler made nine kills and 16 digs while Morgan Newbauer contributed 41 assists, 25 digs and seven aces.

For the Indians (8-14), Virginia Caudill scored 18 points and made three blocks. Carly Warnock scored nine points with five aces and made 27 assists while Brittany Madison had eight points and 14 kills.

Thursday at 6 p.m., the Rebels will play second-seeded Western Reserve.

Division II

JEFFERSON — West Geauga defeated Lakeview by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-19. Niles was eliminated by Conneaut, but no score was provided.

Division III

SALEM — At Salem High, second-seeded United ousted Campbell by scores of 25-3, 25-7, 25-6.

St. Thomas Aquinas eliminated Brookfield by scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-13.

St. Thomas and United will play on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Division III

LEAVITTSBURG — LaBrae defeated Grand Valley by scores of 26-24, 25-8, 25-15.

Mineral Ridge defeated Hawken, but no score was provided.

Division IV

KINSMAN — At Badger High, Ashtabula Sts. John & Paul ousted Maplewood by scores of 25-5, 25-7, 25-10.

Warren JFK took Fairport Harbor Harding to four games before falling by scores of 25-22, 11-25, 26-24, 25-22.

Ledgemont eliminated Bristol by scores of 25-18, 25-8, 25-8.
