Boardman makes big jump

Thanks to a 26-0 victory over Canton GlenOak last Friday, the Boardman High football team made the biggest jump of any Valley team in this week’s OHSAA computer ratings.
The Spartans (6-2), who travel to Canton McKinley this weekend, moved up four spots to No. 6 in Division I, Region 1, in the weekly ratings that determine the playoff teams.
In fact, Boardman switched places with Warren Harding (4-3-1), who dropped to No. 10 following a 39-21 loss to Massillon.
The top eight teams in each of four regions advance to the postseason, with the top four teams earning home games for the first round.
Hubbard (7-1) also made a big move, jumping three spots after a 19-7 win over Liberty. The Eagles are No. 4 in Division III, Region 9. Cardinal Mooney (8-0) and Poland (7-1) remained 1-2 in the region.
Also in Div. III, Salem (6-2) dropped a spot to No. 9 in Region 11 despite a win over winless Beaver Local.
McDonald (8-0) moved up two spots to No. 3 in Div. VI, Region 21, after a 24-11 win over Western Reserve.
Warren JFK (6-2) moved up one spot to No. 5 in Region 21 and Western Reserve (7-1) fell two spots to No. 9.
Also in Div. VI, Columbiana (6-2) stayed at No. 2 after defeating Mineral Ridge, 33-27, last weekend.
In Div. II, Region 5, Howland (7-1) fell one spot to No. 5 and Canfield (7-1) slid three placed to No. 10 despite each winning last weekend, over Niles and Chaney, respectively.
Girard (8-0) also slid one place, to No. 3, in Div. IV, Region 13, while Lakeview (6-2) stayed at No. 4.
Three Valley teams are among the top five in Div. V, Region 17.
Crestview (8-0), which defeated winless Lisbon last weekend, dropped one spot to No. 2. East Palestine (7-1) stayed at No. 4 and Ursuline (5-2), which defeated Akron Buchtel 35-0 last weekend, moved up one position to No. 5.
