Warren PD gets grant to pay police officer OT

WARREN — The Warren Police Department has been awarded $43,740 to pay officers to work overtime to reduce the number of fatal car crashes, speed-related crashes and alcohol-related crashes and increase seat-belt use now through next September.

The grant is a 4 percent increase over the previous year, when the department received $41,895. The amount the department received last fiscal year was also a 4 percent increase over its 2007-2008 amount.

Funding for the High Visibility Enforcement Overtime Grant comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The money cannot be used to pay officers’ base salaries.
