Cab driver robbed

WARREN — A cabdriver for New Valley Taxi was robbed at gunpoint about 1 a.m. Friday at 1413 Fifth Street S.W., near the Hampshire House Apartments.

The driver said that when he arrived at the address that had requested a ride, two men were standing in the doorway of the apartment building. The two men walked to his cab and got in. When he turned around, one was pointing a gun at his face and demanding money.

The two robbers each reached into the driver’s pocket and took cash, then ran off.

The driver said both men were about 6 feet tall and skinny. One was in his mid-20s and wearing a parka. The other had a red rag across his face.

The dispatcher told police that the number given when the call for the ride was made was later determined to be disconnected.

Deer breaks window

NEWTON FALLS — An eight-point buck charged through the front window of the Movie Gallery, 175 Broad St., walked around inside, then walked back out through the hole in the window that he made.

In the process, he left behind his antlers — apparently the result of hitting them on the window or a shelf in the store, one employee said.

The antlers were in pieces, said Christopher Girgy. The incident occurred at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The deer didn’t hurt any of the customers inside the store, but he broke a front window and charged into one shelving unit before trying to charge another window but not succeeding in breaking it, Girgy said.

Deer sometimes charge at a window because they see their reflection in it, Girgy said he’s been told.
