Canfield rolls past Chaney, 41-7; Struthers blanks Conneaut, 27-0


CANFIELD — Playing as the away team on its home turf, the Canfield High football team had no problem turning back Chaney, 41-14, in a non-league game Friday night.

Billy Fisher hit four field goals, two from 40 yards out, to lead Canfield (7-1). Blake Jackson led Canfield’s rushing attack with 47 yards and one score, while Kyle Vaclav carried for 33 yards and two scores. Canfield’s defense was able to hold Chaney (0-8) without scoring until the middle of the fourth quarter.

Chaney’s offensive attack was on the ground through Ar-monn Adams ran for 90 yards and a touchdown. Steve Shackleford added the other Cowboy touchdown.

Struthers 27, Conneaut 0

CONNEAUT — Jermayne Brooks ran seven times for 185 yards and three touchdowns to lead Struthers (2-6), which won for the second time in three games.

Nick Jacubec added 35 yards on 10 carries and caught two passes for 14 yards. Ryan Pollifrone completed 4 of 5 passes for 41 yards and a touchdown to Kevin McDonald. The Wildcats rolled up 282 yards rushing.

LaBrae 21, Brookfield 0

LEAVITTSBURG — Evan Hill provided two touchdowns and 93 yards on the ground to lead LaBrae (3-5, 2-2 All-American Conference Blue Tier).

Andrew Sekela went 2-for-4 for 66 yards and ran for a 75 yard touchdown.

Joe Kirila carried the ball 21 times for 83 yards, but wasn’t able to get Brookfield (0-8, 0-4) on the scoreboard.

Lakeview 34, Jefferson Area 13

CORTLAND — Te Elias rushed for 229 yards and four touchdowns to lead Lakeview (6-2) past Jefferson (3-5). Elias scored twice in the first quarter and third quarters, the longest a 95-yard run. Anthony Franco completed eight passes for 86 yards and one touchdown toss to Tyler DeWeese.

Jefferson was led by Josh Simon who rushed for 67 yards and one score, and quarterback Colin Cicon was able to get into the end zone for the other score.

Newton Falls 33, Champion 20

CHAMPION — John Davis rushed for 147 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Newton Falls (6-2, 3-1) in an AAC Blue Tier game.

Matt Brazin completed 9 of 13 passes for 115 yards and two TDs for the Tigers, who led 33-7 after three quarters. Eric Kline caught four passes for 78 yards and one score, and Brian Moser caught the other TD pass. Anthony Kline also scored for the Tigers.

Travis Damron rushed for 87 yards and returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown to lead Champion (1-7, 0-4). Billy Yartz was 4-of-9 passing for 67 yards and TD throws to Damron and Austin Likens.

Salem 41, Beaver Local 6

SALEM — Salem’s Ben Eisel returned the opening kickoff 85 yards to give Salem (6-2) a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

Trent Toothman completed 8 of 14 for 123 yards and two TD passes, both to Eisel. Toothman also scored on a 33-yard interception return.
