UPMC Foundation plans Boo Ball as benefit
SHARON, Pa. — UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation will host its sixth annual Boo Ball on Oct. 30 at the Corinthian, 47 Vine Ave., to raise funds for community projects. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The evening will include a dinner buffet, psychic readings, 25-cent drafts, and a costume contest (costumes are encouraged but not required). Entertainment will be by The Look.

Symphony Guild schedules style show
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Symphony Guild will sponsor its sixth annual “On the Town” fashion show Oct. 28 at Tippecanoe Country Club, 5870 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield.
The social event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by lunch at 11:30 and the style show featuring Arbonne International and clothing by Possessions.
There will be complimentary punch and a silent auction, and valet parking will be available.

Salad day scheduled by Family Service
YOUNGSTOWN — A Feast of Salads fundraiser will be sponsored by Protestant Family Service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 31 at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m., and the event will include a fashion show and Chinese auction. The donation is $20.
Bicentennial throws on sale for Christmas
SALEM — Salem Historical Society will be selling throws, commemorating the county’s 200th anniversary, in time for Christmas gifting. Until Oct. 31 a throw can be reserved for a special price of $50. After that day the cost will be $55.
One of the 51x68-inch cotton throws will be displayed Monday and Wednesday mornings and Sunday afternoons at the historical society’s gift shop, 208 S. Broadway Ave.

WARREN — The awards and honors committee of the Ohio Library Council presented the 2009 Diana Vescelius Memorial Award to Sarah Pillivant, teen librarian at Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, at the Sept. 10 meeting of the board of trustees at the library.
During the time Pillivant has been at the library, teen attendance rates have skyrocketed. She has developed a number of innovative programs including an anime film series, open mike poetry night, and HTML training, and is highly regarded for her professionalism when dealing with patron concerns.
The award recognizes library leaders of tomorrow who show outstanding commitment to the profession, including advocacy in areas of intellectual freedom, outreach and/or library innovation and expansion of services.
Stocking stuffer event to benefit the needy
SALEM — Salem HIlls Ladies Association will present a silent auction, “Stocking Up for Charity,” at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Salem Hills Country Club. Admission is $5 and includes hors d’oeuvres and beverage. A cash bar will be available.
Patrons are asked to take packaged treats or canned goods to be stuffed in stockings and distributed to the needy.

Travel Club plans tour to theater
WARREN — The public is invited to join members of Trumbull County Travel Club for a motor coach trip Tuesday to Canton for a performance of “Jeannie Robertson and Carl Hurley” at the State Theater.
There will be a stop at the Harry Loudon Chocolate Shop, and for a lunch (on your own) at Hartville Kitchen. The cost is $68.
On Thursday the club will meet at 11 a.m. at Panera Bread on Elm Road for a slide show on “Key West and the Sunshine State” to be presented by David Wendt. The event is a preview of a tour on Feb. 5-12 to destinations in Florida.
