Division I tennis players win 1, lose 1
OBERLIN — Canfield’s doubles team of Gabrielle Brant and Paige Zwicker, and Boardman’s Carolyn Jesko are still in contention for a Division I state tennis tournament berth.
Brant and Zwicker won their first-round match at the district tournament on Thursday, defeating Suparna Reddy and Ashton Fox of Mayfield, 6-1, 6-2, at Oberlin College.
In the quarterfinals, the Canfield duo lost to Victoria and Mandy Marchant of Kenston, 6-1, 6-2.
Brant and Zwicker will play Marie Feddrix and Hannah Shiekh of Magnificat in a consolation semifinal match on Saturday.
In singles play Jesko defeated Caitlin Lawless of Beaumont 7-6 (5), 6-4, in the first round, before losing to Stephanie Hollis of Magnificat, 6-2, 6-3.
Jesko will next play Lauren Golick of Westlake in a consolation semifinal.
