Free trees in Salem

SALEM — The Salem Tree Commission was granted $6,000 by the Salem Community Foundation for its planting program.

The commission also was the recipient of many donations in memory of Ken Fehr this year.

Any Salem resident who would like free trees planted along the street in front of his or her house should call the mayor’s office at (330) 332-4241. Furnish your name, address, phone and the number of trees you think would fit. The species of tree is chosen by the commission, based on which street the house is on.

The commission considers underground utilities and overhead electric wires when evaluating a planting site. The object is to plant the right trees in the right places.

Instructions on how to care for the new trees are mailed to each recipient.
