Boo Timko is medalist at Div. I golf


HINCKLEY — Boo Timko of Canfield High has qualified for the Division I boys state golf tournament.

Timko shot 72 at the district tournament on Wednesday at Pine Hills Golf Course.

Timko was participating as an individual.

The top four teams to qualify for the state tournament were Cleveland St. Ignatius (310), Uniontown Lake (313), Medina (316) and Stow (317).

The other individual qualifiers were Ryan Headley of Marlington (73), Jon Clarke of Massillon Jackson (75) and Holden Pahr of Chardon (76).

Girls tennis

CANTON — Chelsea Ross of Warren JFK is the only area player still alive in singles after the first day of the Division II district tournament.

Cardinal Mooney’s Jaclyn DiDomenico and Jordan Stefko are also alive in doubles play.

Ross defeated Rose Klein of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, 6-1, 6-2, in the first round, before losing to Lydia Colvin of Orange, 6-4, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

Ross will play Taylor Wedlake of Akron SVSM in a consolation semifinal on Saturday.

The top five singles and top five doubles finishers qualifier for the state tournament next weekend in the Columbus area.

In other singles play on Wednesday, Danielle Mullis of Poland lost to Wedlake, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round. Mullis’ teammate, Gabriele Brocker, lost to Ali Althans of Gilmour Academy, 6-2, 6-3. Also, Gabriella Lee of JFK lost to Emily Mazzola of Chagrin Falls, 6-1, 6-2, also in the first round.

In doubles, DiDomenico and Stefko defeated Elise Griffiths and Whitney Mills of Rocky River, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round, before losing to Chagrin Falls’ Anna Benson and Eric Leone, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

DiDomenico and Stefko will play Sarah Chen and Christina Kander of Bay Village in the consolation semifinals.

Also in doubles play (all first round), Courtney Benson and Amy Noll of Poland fell to Taylor Johnson and Surya Khadilkar of Hawken, 6-0, 6-0; Maddie Jones and Mallory Kahout of JFK lost to Nancy Joyce and Cristin Reed of Walsh Jesuit, 6-0, 6-0; and Claudia Ricotti and Laurencia Lee of JFK fell to Chen and Kander of Bay, 6-4, 6-3.

The tournament continues with semifinals and finals on Saturday.
