Robbery attempt
YOUNGSTOWN — A Brownlee Woods resident told police he was ambushed outside his home by a handgun-carrying white man with black makeup on his face, who emerged from the bushes at midnight and threatened to kill him.
The 51-year-old victim then ran back into his house in the 1600 block of Chattanooga Avenue, where he and his brother successfully struggled to close and lock the front door against the gunman and two other would-be burglars who tried to force their way in. As the victims called police, the men outside continued to kick the door as they tried to get in, one of the victims told police. The kicking eventually stopped and the men outside, all wearing black clothing, fled north on foot.
Police responding to the robbery in progress early Tuesday were told four men were walking along nearby Meadowbrook Avenue, but police said they were unable to find them.
