A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Oct. 7
Domestic violence: Police charged a 15-year-old boy and took him to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown after a situation with his mother at their Poland residence. The woman, however, was not injured.
Oct. 8
Burglary: To a home in the 7900 block of Meadowbrooke Trail, from which the burglar fled after hearing the homeowner in the basement.
BOARDMAN
Oct. 8
Bad checks: A Campbell man cashed two checks at a Hillman Way bank and later learned the checks had been stolen in Niles.
Felonious assault: Police arrested a Boardman man, 30, on a warrant after his girlfriend alleged that while picking up her belongings, he choked her, held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.
Attempted fraud: A Paulin Drive woman told police someone tried to defraud her of $1,680 when she searched online for part-time job opportunities.
Assault: A man reported that while apologizing for having erroneously driven on freshly laid asphalt near South Avenue, an irate construction worker poked and pushed him.
Menacing: A worker with a Market Street doctor’s office said a patient threatened to harm the accuser because he refused to write a fraudulent report for monetary purposes.
Theft: Police charged a Struthers woman, 29, with theft and possession of drug-abuse instruments after two compact-disc players were stolen from Sears in the Southern Park Mall. She also had a hypodermic needle, police said.
Theft: A checkbook was taken from a car parked at the Southern Park Mall.
Theft/damage: Two vehicles at a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant were entered. Stolen were a bag containing nursing supplies, a stereo, a laptop computer and other property.
Theft/criminal damaging: A car’s passenger-side window was broken at a California Avenue business before someone removed a purse and credit cards.
Domestic violence: Authorities signed charges and issued a warrant for the arrest of a man on behalf of a Wolosyn Circle woman who alleged her boyfriend had tossed her onto the living-room floor. The woman complained of pain in her back and abdomen and suffered bruises.
Theft: A global-positioning-system unit, a citizens band radio and money were taken from a vehicle at a Boardman-Canfield Road eatery.
Oct. 9
Theft: A vehicle in the 7400 block of Huntington Drive was entered. Fifteen CDs, a GPS device, three pairs of sunglasses and loose change were stolen.
Identity fraud: A Youngstown man found out utilities at a Woodview Avenue home had been obtained in his name without permission. The man said he received two letters from collection agencies stating he owes a total of $237.
Burglary: At a residence in the 4900 block of Lockwood Boulevard, where jewelry, a camcorder, a projector and money were taken.
Criminal damaging: Someone kicked the driver’s- side door to a vehicle in the 1100 block of Boardman-Canfield Road, causing a large dent.
Theft by deception: Two McClurg Road business owners told authorities they gave a man a total of $575 after the man claimed he was acting on behalf of two area school districts. The owners discovered, however, that neither district had authorized such solicitation.
Theft: The front license plate was stolen off a car in the 7200 block of South Avenue.
Arrest: A Youngstown man, 51, faced misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon and impersonating a peace officer after authorities responded to someone with a firearm at an East Midlothian Boulevard business. The man had a loaded 9 mm handgun, a can of pepper spray and a badge. He claimed he was a federal agent, according to the police report.
Oct. 10
Breaking and entering: A large cinder block was used to break a window at Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd., though nothing appeared to be missing.
Recovered property: Youngstown police stopped a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora and apprehended two juveniles after a Chester Drive man reported the vehicle had been stolen from him.
Theft: Police charged a Campbell woman, 19, and an Akron woman, 20, with stealing a home pregnancy test and two articles of women’s clothing from Wal-Mart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Fraud: A Green Bay Drive man told officers he placed an ad online to sell two items for $75 but later got a fraudulent check from Muncie, Ind.
Breaking and entering/vandalism: Someone entered a garage on Overhill Road and spray-painted graffiti.
Criminal damaging: Tire tracks were found in a front yard in the 70 block of Beechwood Drive.
Assault/theft: A woman told police her teenage son had been assaulted near Forest Park Drive when he confronted two people about a stolen bicycle. The boy suffered an elbow injury and a bump to his head.
Child endangerment: Police received a report of an infant who had struck his head while left alone in the 4900 block of Brookwood Road.
Theft: Police charged an 18-year-old township man with the theft of $278 worth of merchandise from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.
Theft: Two steel pipes and concrete posts were stolen in the 8300 block of Southern Boulevard.
Criminal damaging: A lawn was damaged in the 100 block of Meadowbrook Avenue.
Theft: A hydraulic jack, four jack stands, a dolly and a weed trimmer were stolen from a Romaine Avenue home.
Theft/criminal damaging: A vehicle was damaged in the 8000 block of Southern Boulevard. Taken were an in-dash CD player, an amplifier and a battery.
Oct. 11
Auto theft: A 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was stolen in the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue.
Identity theft: A Risher Road woman noticed four prescriptions for OxyContin were billed to her health-insurance account without her knowledge.
Theft: A GPS unit was taken from a vehicle parked in the 5300 block of Old Oxford Lane.
Assault: A woman reported being assaulted and threatened while at a South Avenue church.
Domestic violence: Police picked up a 53-year-old township man at his residence on a felony charge after his brother alleged the man had blocked him in then punched him in the face while the accuser was in his car.
Theft: A man reported the theft of a laptop computer and its carrying case from a home in the 5900 block of Glenwood Avenue.
Domestic violence: Police took into custody a 20-year-old Poland man near Indianola Road and charged him after his girlfriend alleged that while the man drove, he grabbed the back of her head and slammed her face into the dashboard.
Oct. 12
Criminal damaging: A stained-glass window was broken at a Mathews Road church, for a damage estimate of $150.
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a shed in the 700 block of Glenbrook Road and removed a gas-powered weed trimmer.
Attempted theft/assault: A woman who tried to steal a $60 pair of boots from Burlington Coat Factory, 529 Boardman-Canfield Road, struck an employee’s right cheek with a cell phone and fled in a vehicle.
Arrest: A traffic stop in the 5600 block of South Avenue led to a 45-year-old Girard woman’s being taken into custody on a felony warrant from Cuyahoga County charging her with fraudulent and unauthorized use of a computer system.
Oct. 13
Burglary: To a residence in the 1400 block of Tori Pines Court via the front door. Jewelry and a laptop computer were missing.
