Kindergartner left asleep on Pittsburgh bus
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A 5-year-old kindergarten student in the Pittsburgh Public Schools was left on a school bus after falling asleep.
School officials say the boy woke up after his driver parked the otherwise empty bus and left. The boy got out of the bus and started knocking on doors when a resident called 911 about 8:30 a.m. today. The boy was in class and doing well a few hours later.
School police say the 38-year-old driver is still being sought, and likely faces a charge of child endangerment.
W.L. Roenick Excavating & Transportation owns the bus, and company vice president Bill Roenick says the driver has been suspended.
Roenick says drivers are supposed to make sure their buses are empty after their last stop. The boy apparently missed his stop when he fell asleep.
