Dow - briefly - eclipses the 10,000-point mark

NEW YORK (AP) — Surprisingly strong earnings reports from Intel Corp. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are sending stocks sharply higher.

The Dow Jones industrial average passed the psychologically important 10,000 mark briefly in early afternoon trading Wednesday, a level not seen in a year. Major stock indexes all rose more than 1 percent.

The Dow last traded above 10,000 on Oct 7, 2008. It hasn't closed above that level since Oct 3, 2008.
