Trains from defunct scenic rides to be auctioned

MINERVA, Ohio (AP) — A railroad museum in Ohio is selling off trains used for scenic tours that ended because of cost issues.

The Steam Railroad Museum in Minerva has diesel locomotives, passenger cars, a caboose and a baggage car that are scheduled to be put up for auction on Thursday.

The rides that were stopped in 2006 took passengers on a one-hour round trip into the eastern Ohio countryside.

Museum president Emerson Roth says insurance for the service became too expensive, at about $1,800 per month.

Auctioneer George Kiko says there are no minimum bids for the equipment. He expects the auction to attract scrap dealers, and maybe a person interested in putting the caboose in their backyard.
