Specialized transportation grant announced

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — Eastgate Regional Council of Governments is announcing the fiscal year 2010 specialized-transportation grant program for agencies in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The program provides funds to assist organizations in providing transportation services to meet the special needs of the elderly and people with disabilities.

The capital grant funds may be used to buy vehicles, mobility management services and other transportation related equipment.

Grants from the specialized-transportation program can be used by private, nonprofit agencies to buy new vehicles, computers, radio equipment and mobility management.

The proposed projects must be included in a locally developed Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan.

Under the federally funded program, the grants pay for 80 percent of the approved items with the local agency responsible for the remaining 20 percent.

A letter of intent must be submitted to the Eastgate office by Oct. 15 to determine project eligibility. Those determined eligible will receive an invitation to apply. The more information or to obtain a letter of intent form, contact Kathy Zook at kzook@eastgatecog.org or (330) 779-3800.
