David A. Capp, a member of Boy Scout Troop 22, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, Boy Scouting’s highest honor.

The award was presented at a recent court of honor. The troop is chartered to St. Christine Church in Youngstown. Capp’s Scoutmaster is Mat Sweely. His parents are Robert and Cindy Capp of Liberty Township.

Capp joined Scouting in September 1997 as a Tiger Cub with Pack 22. He advanced through Cub Scouts to earn the Arrow of Light Award and joined Troop 22 in February 2002.

He earned 26 merit badges and has served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, quartermaster and assistant senior patrol leader. He also earned his two-year Pipestone Award, lifeguard certification and mile-swim award. He also earned the Stambaugh Triangle for service to Camp Stambaugh.

He served three years as a staff member at the Mahoning County Cub Scout Day Camp, two summers on staff at GWRC Cub Resident Camp, one-half season on the Camp Akelia Cub Camp staff at Seven Ranges and two years as waterfront staff at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation. He also was charter treasurer for Venturing Crew 22, where he continues to be a member and serves as assistant scoutmaster with Troop 22.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Capp worked with Liberty Township Safe House to create an after-school tutoring program. He acquired the needed funding for his project through donations along with donated dictionaries, notebooks and other supplies and recruited volunteer student-tutors as well as volunteer professional faculty who served as support resources to the volunteer tutors.
