Renowned sculptor to appear at the Butler

YOUNGSTOWN — Renowned American sculptor John Raimondi will attend a public presentation titled “Forty Years of Public Art” at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Butler Institute of American Art’s Zona Auditorium. The event is co-sponsored by Youngstown State University and the Butler. Throughout his 40-year career, Raimondi has produced more than 100 monumental sculptures for public, corporate and private collections throughout the world. His work consists of a wide variety of styles that reflect a classical sense of design and craftsmanship.

The Butler also will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its opening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, with daylong activities, including tours.

Victorian Players stage Poe’s ‘The Black Cat’

YOUNGSTOWN — Victorian Players Theatre, 702 Mahoning Ave., will present an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Black Cat” for three weekends, beginning Friday. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. There will be special midnight performances Oct. 24 and 31. The play was adapted by J.E. Ballantyne Jr., who also directs it. New Castle Playhouse presents ‘I Love You’

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” will open Friday at New Castle Playhouse’s Annex Theater, 212 E. Long Ave. The musical comedy, directed by Paula R. Ferguson, takes on the truths and myths behind relationships. It will run for nine performances: Friday, Saturday, Oct. 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and Nov. 1. Barbershop singers present ‘Calendar Girls’

MINERAL RIDGE — Harmony Inc., an international nonprofit organization that promotes, preserves and educates women singing four-part harmony in the barbershop style, is celebrating its 50th year. The local chapter, Sounds of Square County chorus, under the direction of Bob Grischow, will present the musical “Calendar Girls” at Mineral Ridge High School at 3 p.m. Oct. 18. Playhouse seeks input from potential directors

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Playhouse is inviting all area directors to submit a list of plays they are interested in directing for the 2010-11 season. The Playhouse traditionally has a yearly slate of two comedies, two dramas and two musicals, and applicants are encouraged to send choices in any or all categories. WARREN — The annual SCOPE Inc. Tri County art show will take place Oct. 19 to 23 at the center, 220 W. Market St. Anyone age 50 and over can submit artwork completed in the past year.
