External grant funding for research and sponsored programs at Youngstown State University jumped by more than 70 percent last year. A breakdown of funding by college and major department for fiscal 2008-09 (with 2007-08 figures in parentheses) shows:

College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics: $7,095,551 ($2,873,361).

Beeghly College of Education: $1,251,692 ($1,201,022).

Provost’s office: $1,078,407 ($582,178).

Public Service Institute: $944,158 ($1,160,997).

Williamson College of Business Administration: $376,000 ($337,561).

Bitonte College of Health and Human Services: $256,664 ($11,000).

College of Fine and Performing Arts: $215,440 ($238,712).

College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences: $106,778 ($51,421).

Other: $360,998 ($345,886).
