McDonald runs away with Div. II Legends title

BAZETTA — Junior Jerry Dugan finished second and freshman Patrick Kunkel finished third to lead the McDonald boys cross country team to the Division II team title at Saturday’s Legends Meet at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

Senior Frank Natoli was 10th for the Blue Devils, who easily edged Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 64-92 in the 24-team division.

Boardman senior Sam Deskin (16:23.6) won the Division I individual title, helping the Spartans place fourth out of 19 teams.

Maplewood seniors Tom Bottoroff, Eric Rupe and Aaron Harrison finished 4-5-6 and A.J. Grayson was eighth as the Rockets won the Div. III crown with 36 points. Gilmour Academy was second with 67.

Maplewood freshman Alanna Shamrock was fourth in the girls Division III meet and teammate Krystal Williams was sixth to lead the Rockets to a runner-up team finish, while McDonald freshman Sarah Jones was fifth to help the Blue Devils place fourth.

Stow Invitational

STOW — Junior Nicole Tiberio was fourth with a time of 20:14 and freshman Emma Lunne fifth (20:18) to lead the Canfield High girls cross country team to the team title in the lower bracket of Saturday’s Division I Stow Invitational.

Jennifer Love placed seventh (20:28), followed by Jillian Smith (21:12, 13th) and Marla Marucci (22:04, 26th) for the Cardinals, who edged Chardon 55-57 in the eight-team meet.
