LOCAL TOPIcs on tv Sunday programs


“Community Connection” (6:30 a.m., WFMJ-TV 21; rebroadcast at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday on the Time Warner Cable community access channel): The Mahoning Valley Task Force on Crime and Violence Prevention will host the 13th annual Peace Awards Banquet on Oct. 19. Ricky George, chairman of the task force, and Brenda Gray-Morgan, committee member, will talk with host Madonna Chism Pinkard about the event, local honorees, and crime-and-violence statistics in the Valley.

Next, the Rev. Scott Lewis will discuss the upcoming Hope Gala fundraiser dinner and dance that will benefit the Big Reach Center of Greenford. The Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes will raise funds and inform about the fastest-growing disease in our community. Melissa Sutton of the American Diabetes Association and child ambassador Riley Cavin will talk about the event and how the community can get involved.

Finally, Mary McMillen, home economist with Certified Angus Beef, will show cost-cutting ways to prepare meals, cooking once but serving twice.
