YSU reports two students have Type A influenza

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University reported two student cases of Type A influenza Friday.

Type A is an indicator of the H1N1 virus, but students aren’t tested for H1N1 unless they are hospitalized, said YSU spokesman Ron Cole. Hospitalization wasn’t required in these cases, he said.

YSU had on earlier case of Type A influenza at the beginning of the semester, he said, noting that student wasn’t hospitalized either.

The university follows the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendation for isolating students ill with the flu until their symptoms clear, he said.

Two of the three students affected live in campus housing. The third lives in an apartment near campus, he said.
