Artist to demonstrate skills at gallery in mall
NILES — Artist Thomas McNickle will demonstrate his technique at Art Outreach Gallery in Eastwood Mall from 7-9 p.m. Monday.
McNickle has taught art with the Neshannock school district, Youngstown State University, Westminster College, the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts and the Butler Institute of American Art. His work has received 25 medals in national juried exhibitions across the country and has been included in more than 100 juried exhibitions.
McNickle lives in Volant, Pa., with his wife, Janice, where he also maintains his studio.
The Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society is the sponsor of the event. A donation of $5 for nonmembers is suggested.
Film series to screen ‘Let Right One In’
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Jake Erhardt International Film Series will show the Swedish film “Let the Right One In” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.
The event is free to the public. A short introduction will be given prior to the showing and a discussion will follow. The 2008 film won the Saturn Award for Best International Film and the Austin Film Critics and the Boston Society of Film Critics Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
The story revolves around a bullied young boy and the peculiar young girl who moves next door, but turns out to be a vampire.
New gallery to show work of photographer
BOARDMAN — Glenwood Christian Fellowship, 7872 Glenwood Ave., has opened Gallery on Glenwood. The first exhibit at the gallery will feature the work of photographer Dionne Wright. A reception will at 2 p.m. Sunday. The exhibition runs through December. Admission is free. For more information, go to dionnewright.com.
Richard States’ photos
WARREN — The work of photographer Richard States is on exhibit in the Nissen Art Gallery in Trumbull Memorial Hospital through Nov. 4.
States, of Cortland, is a horticulturist and a retired educator. He taught horticulture for 35 years in the Warren city schools, has authored seven educational slide series and co-authored three others used in horticulture education. These slide series were published by The Ohio State University, which now has reproduced them on CDs.
In 2003, States won his fourth Photographic Society of America gold medal and his photographs have received many first-place awards and “Slide-of-the-Year” recognitions. Additionally, he has more than 50 covers on The Buckeye, the publication of the Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association. He is past president of the Warren Photography Society and his images have been used in various advertising campaigns.
The Nissen Art Gallery is located in the north lobby of TMH. The photographs featured are for sale with prices ranging from $35 to $85.
