McDonald runs away with ITCL team title


McDONALD — McDonald junior Jerry Dugan won the overall title with a time of 16:51 and the Blue Devils took five of the top seven spots to run away with the boys title at Tuesday’s Inter Tri-County League cross country meet at Woodland Park.

Senior Frank Natoli (17:10) and junior Nick Rees (17:22) finished 2-3, while junior Jeff Kunkel was fifth and sophomore Kyle Joynes was seventh for McDonald, which finished with 17 points.

South Range sophomore Ryan Roush was fourth as the Raiders placed second with 60 points.

Lowellville senior Monica Ciarniello won the girls title with a time of 20:04, but Columbiana managed to edge out the Rockets and McDonald for the team title with 60 points. The Blue Devils had 63 and Lowellville 67.

East Palestine senior Leighann Kelvington (20:49) was second, while Columbiana sophomore Ashley Lydic (21:09) was third and Lowellville teammates Rachel Durbin and Emily Carlson 4-5.

All-American Conference

BROOKFIELD — Poland senior Sean Murphy won the boys title with a time of 16:54 and teammate Matt Gleydura was third to help the Bulldogs edge Canfield 31-40 for the Red Tier crown at the All-American Conference meet at Community Park.

Howland’s Aaron Sutton was second (17:11) and Canfield teammates Luke Stefandies and Ryan Mirto finished 4-5.

Canfield’s Jennifer Love (20:20), Nicole Tiberio (20:47) and Emma Lunne finished 2-3-4 to lead the Cardinals to the girls title with 24 points. Anna Pompeo won the race with a time of 20:14 to lead Poland to second with 41 points. Howland’s Hayley Buzulencia was fifth.

Butchy Brannin (17:15) and Nick Tripi (17:59) took the top two spots in the White Tier to lead Lakeview to the team title with 20 points. Struthers’ Ryan Pavicko (18:05) was third, followed by Lakeview’s Andy Innocenzi and Salem’s Alex Stone. The Quakers were second with 66 points.

Salem’s girls swept the top four spots to win the team title. Mallory Maher (21:09) was first, followed by Bethany Huston (21:21), Gabby Shivers (21:28) and Betsy Yahaniak. Struthers’ Alana Smith was fifth.

In the Blue Tier, Girard’s boys won the top five spots to win the team title. Ryan Delbene (17:53) was the winner, followed by Dan Johntony (18:44), Ricky Rinko (18:55), Jimmy Depizzo and Gino Minnitti.

Brookfield’s Angie Kirila (21:03) won the girls title to lead the Warriors to the team title. LaBrae’s Amanda Richards (22:25) was second, followed by Brookfield’s Raeschelle Foster (22:59), Desiree DeFrank and Julia Guerrieri.
