Mayors of Philly, Denver bet on baseball series

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The mayor of Philadelphia has made a bet with his counterpart in Denver over the outcome of the Phillies-Rockies baseball playoff.

Surprisingly, no cheesesteaks are at stake.

Instead, the mayors are using the competition as a way to help the homeless. A homeless social service agency in the winning city will receive $2,000 in corporate donations.

No matter who wins, the money will be given collectively by Citizens Bank, FirstBank in Denver and Philadelphia-based cable giant Comcast, which also operates in Colorado.

In Philadelphia, the money will go to Project HOME; in Colorado, it will go to Denver’s Road Home.

The best-of-five series starts this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
