New signs going up, scaffolding staying in place at downtown bank building
YOUNGSTOWN — New PNC Bank signs will be going up next month at the downtown National City Bank Building, but the scaffolding on the Wick Avenue side of the downtown building isn’t going anywhere just yet.
Actually, more will probably be added, said Anita Atheneos, property manager for Park South Development Co. LLC, which owns the building.
That’s because major exterior work to the entire structure is expected to start soon requiring the company to place additional scaffolding around the building, she said today. The company won’t know until next week how long the improvement project will take, she said.
Park South’s permit to have scaffolding expires next month, city officials say. The company hasn’t submitted plans to the city for the exterior work as of today.
The city’s design review committee today approved placing four PNC Bank signs on the building and one near it. There was the possibility the signs wouldn’t be installed because of problems with the building’s exterior — two pieces of granite fell off it in summer 2008.
But the signs will be secured to the building’s interior with no danger of them falling, city officials said.
Also today, design review committee members said they want to meet with the company developing a CVS store on Fifth Avenue to discuss issues regarding a detention pond and sign. The meeting is expected to be held in the coming weeks.
