Steelers win in Sunday nighter
The Browns lost in overtime to the Bengals on a field goal, 23-20, and the 49ers blanked the St. Louis Rams, 35-0.
Pittsburgh defeated the Chargers 38-28, while the Cleveland Browns came up just short in overtime against the Bengals.
COMBINED DISPATCHES
Browns defensive line coach Bryan Cox had just told Shaun Rogers he’d played his heart out in a 23-20 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, and the massive nose tackle still didn’t feel like talking.
When it was suggested that some believed he had a third blocked kick in him Sunday, Rogers mumbled something like, “Guess not.”
Rogers blocked a field goal and an extra point, the latter sending the game into overtime after Carson Palmer’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Chad Ochocinco tied it with 1:55 remaining.
But Rogers couldn’t get his hand on Shayne Graham’s 31-yard field goal with four seconds left in the overtime that sent the Browns (0-4) to their 10th consecutive loss.
“I was just hoping,” Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards said, referring to another big swat from Rogers. “From the sideline, it looked like it went wide right.
“There’s no sugarcoating it. You can say we played well, but it hurts.”
Meanwhile, Ben Roethlisberger threw touchdown passes on fast-starting Pittsburgh’s first two drives and Rashard Mendenhall surpassed his previous career total with 165 yards rushing and two scores.
The Steelers opened a 28-point lead, then held on to beat the San Diego Chargers 38-28.
