Ohio's Mount Union College to become Mount Union University

ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) — Campus trustees have voted to rename Mount Union College as Mount Union University effective next August.

Trustees, who approved the change on Sunday, say it reflects growing enrollment, expanded courses and an enhanced campus here.

Mount Union’s enrollment has nearly doubled since the 1990s, and this fall it reached a full-time record of about 2,150. The school’s football team has won a record 10 NCAA Division III national championships.

Smaller, private colleges have increasingly adopted the university label.
