Surprise party honors Scotfords for anniversary

POLAND — Friends and family members greeted Mr. and Mrs. John Scotford on Aug. 28 at Poland Library, where a surprise 50th anniversary celebration was arranged in their honor.

Hosts for the event were their sons and their wives, John and Laura Scotford of Poland and Steve and Elyse Scotford of New York City. Also participating were their grandchildren, Sydney, Sam and Jim Scotford.

Mr. Scotford and the former Judy Busler were married Dec. 5, 1959, at First Community Church in Columbus.

After graduating from Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash., Mr. Scotford spent five years with the U.S. Air Force; one year in pilot training, one year as a jet fighter pilot in Korea, and three years as a pilot instructor in Texas. He worked at Boeing Airplane Co. in Seattle, Wash., before moving to Ohio in 1957, where he developed many businesses in the Boardman and Poland areas.

Mrs. Scotford graduated from Ohio State University, where she was an assistant to the president. She was active with Poland Boosters, was a member of the Junior League of Youngstown and has taught Bible studies for many years.

They are members of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
