Golf Dome will be site of 12-bout boxing benefit

GIRARD — “Destruction at the Dome,” a 12-bout amateur boxing show, is set for Saturday at the Golf Dome to benefit the Austintown Colts youth football program.

Last year, the youth football organization suffered a severe setback when one of the officers stole thousands of dollars from the general fund.

Guests will include former U.S. Representative Jim Traficant and former Browns standout Greg Pruitt.

“We doing what we can to try and help the situation,” said Mike Cefalde, a longtime coach for the Colts. “It’s going to be a nice little event.”

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $8 for students. Tables cost $250 and seat eight. Pruitt will sign autographs for $5 each. A portion of all proceeds will go toward the Colts.

The township recently donated a field, so proceeds will go toward building a parking lot, equipment room and concession stand.

The Colts have produced several standout athletes, including middleweight boxing champion Kelly Pavlik, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Keiwan Ratliff, Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Mike McGlynn and Youngstown State University athletic director Ron Strollo.

“We’re looking for as many ex-players to attend as possible,” said Cefalde.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the first fight scheduled for 7.
