Struthers defeats LaBrae; Hubbard and Poland win


STRUTHERS — Keith Auman led the way for Struthers, scoring twice to give the Wildcats their first win of the year over LaBrae, 18-7, on Friday night.

LaBrae (3-3) got off to a good start, returning the opening kick-off 80 yards but that would be all the Wildcats (1-5) would give up.

Ryan Pollifrone went 11-23 for 136 yards and two touchdown passes, one to Kevin McDonald and the other to Keith Auman both in the first quarter. Auman later added to Struthers lead with a 2 yard run.

Hubbard 35, Brookfield 0

HUBBARD — Andre Givens and Hubbard (5-1) would not give Brookfield (0-6) a chance.

Kurtis Drummond started the scoring for the Eagles early in the first quarter with a 61-yard reception from quarterback Matt Shelton.

After that, it was the Givens show. Givens ran in for two scores, and started the second half off with an 85-yard kick off return.

Poland 49, Chaney 0

POLAND — Poland (6-0) remained unbeaten. Luke Wollet started the scoring early in the first quarter with a 5-yard run. Colin Reardon took over, throwing a 10-yard pass to Darius Patton for his first of two scores on the night.

Patton later rushed for a 55-yard touchdown with 10:08 remaining in the second quarter.

Ed Kosek contributed on defense, intercepting a pass and returning it 52 yards for a score.

Liberty 21, Champion 7

CHAMPION — John Rivers had a touchdown and 65 yards on eight carries as he helped Liberty (4-2) past Champion (1-5).

Liberty’s Nick Mattocks had just two completions on seven attempts, but one of those completions was a 67-yard pass to Chuck Perdue for a touchdown.

Travis Damron was the only one to put Champion on the scoreboard on a 25-yard pass from Billy Yartz late in the fourth quarter. Liberty’s last score came on a Bob Smith-Harris 4-yard run to seal things up.

Howland 28, Beaver Local 0

LISBON — Brandon Neilan’s 75 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns led Howland (6-0, 2-0 All-American Conference Red) past Beaver Local (0-6, 0-2).

Howland’s defense was a major factor in the game as it held Beaver Local to 104 yards.

Howland quarterback Matt Preston went 9 of 13 for 109 yards and one touchdown, and Mike Mangiarelli had 15 carries for 107 yards.
