WARREN — Patrons in a Mahoning Avenue tavern were ordered to lie on the floor by three masked gunmen Wednesday night in a robbery that is similar to several recent Parkman Road robberies.

Callahan’s, 1061 Mahoning Ave., reported that three men dressed in black, all wearing hoodies and all wearing bandannas over their faces, entered the tavern about 10 p.m. and forced patrons to the floor at gunpoint.

The three men removed valuables from the patrons and from the cash register before fleeing on foot toward Freeman street on the east side of Mahoning Avenue.

Police will be examining videotape images captured inside the tavern, police said.

On Sept. 17, three men wearing hooded sweat shirts robbed the Circle K store at the corner of Parkman and North Leavitt roads about 10:30 p.m.

In that robbery, a clerk was hit by one of the robbers with his fist or hand because he said she wasn’t moving fast enough getting money from the cash register and Lotto machine. A customer was forced back inside the store, and her purse was taken in that robbery also.

Five men, three of them dressed all in black, robbed the Red and White Store at the corner of Parkman Road and West Market Street at 10:10 p.m. July 29.

All five were wearing masks as they entered the business at closing time, police said. One of the men had a gun. One witness estimated the robbers were between 16 and 20 years old.

Warren Police Chief Tim Bowers acknowledged this week that the 28 robberies — some armed and some not — in the two wards of the city on either side of Parkman Road Northwest since June 1 are “a lot of robberies.”

Callahan’s is a couple of miles east of the area on Parkman Road that has been victimized in recent months.
