LIBERTY vs. CHAMPION
Kickoff: Today, 7 p.m. at Champion H.S. Field.
Scouting report: Two teams in need of a win matchup tonight. The Leopards (3-2) have scored just four touchdowns in their last three games and are coming off a 15-9 loss at Salem. The Golden Flashes (1-4) would love that kind of production — they’ve reached the end zone just six times all season. Still, these old TAC rivals should put on a pretty nice show.
FITCH vs. MASS. JACKSON
Kickoff: Today, 7:30 p.m. at Falcon Stadium in Austintown.
Scouting report: The Falcons (4-1) must try to bounce back from a loss for the first time this season, following a 21-14 home setback to Canton GlenOak last week. Jackson (0-5) might seem to be the perfect answer, but the Polar Bears have played a killer schedule — five of their six opponents, including Fitch, are currently 4-1 or better — and they took GlenOak to overtime two weeks ago.
NILES vs. GIRARD
Kickoff: Today, 7 p.m., at Arrowhead Stadium in Girard.
Scouting report: The Indians just keep rolling along — they’ve outscored five opponents by a combined 192-60 and haven’t scored fewer than four touchdowns in a game yet. Tonight they’ll face a Niles team (3-2) can scored points as well —last week’s 35-0 loss to Poland notwithstanding. The key for Niles — keep it close until the fourth quarter, a task easier said than done.
EAST vs. CANFIELD
Kickoff: Today, 7:30 p.m., at Canfield Cardinal Stadium.
Scouting report: The Cardinals (4-1) rebounded nicely from their week 4 loss to Howland with a 42-6 victory over Struthers, now welcome a dangerous and athletic East squad that’s looking for a little redemption of its own. The Panthers took one on the chin from Cleveland Heights last Friday, 29-0, and are looking for the same offensive firepower that helped them average almost 23 points per game in Weeks 1-4.
URSULINE vs. ST. THOMAS AQUINAS
Kickoff: Today, 7:30 p.m. at Sirpilla Field in Louisville.
Scouting Report: The Great Ursuline Extended Road Trip of 2009 continues to Stark County, where the Fighting Irish (2-2) face an Aquinas team that’s 1-4 but the four losses have come to teams with a combined record of 18-2. Ursuline fans, there’s good news — the next four games are all at Stambaugh Stadium.
