Gymanfa Ganu set for Sunday in Niles
NILES — The 83rd Niles Gymanfa Ganu, Welsh Hymn Festival, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the McKinley Memorial Auditorium, 40 S. Main St. This hymn festival began in 1926 when both Welsh and non-Welsh people gathered to sing traditional Welsh hymns in both English and Welsh.
Musical director is Geraint Wilkes, a Wales native who lives in Milwaukee. The Shenango Valley Chorale, under the direction of Ed Groves, will perform a number of selections, accompanied by Tina Grieg. Accompanists will be Elaine Burkey of Deerfield and Jane Bartholomew of Hermitage, Pa.
After the choral presentation, a traditional Te Bach (small tea), will be served. The public is welcome, and admission is free.
