Special meeting set on McDonald board

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR

McDONALD — The McDonald board of education will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at the high school library at the request of the state auditor’s office.

The meeting will be open to the public.

The school board hired the auditor’s office to determine exactly what condition the district’s finances were in after the State Department of Education advised McDonald schools it would be placed under fiscal caution effective Sept. 28.

The district had been anticipating a deficit of $217,000, but Lori Simeone, Trumbull County Educational Services treasurer, found numerous unpaid bills.

Simeone went into the district to help Superintendent Michael Wasser in the absence of Thomas Radbaugh, who had resigned as treasurer last month.

The school board agreed to pay the auditor’s office $20,000 to conduct an audit of the district. The audit is ongoing.
