Champion tops Div. II golf sectional

VIENNA — Sophomore Thomas Lydic fired an 80 and led Champion High to the top spot in the Division II boys sectional golf tournament here at Candywood Golf Course.
The Flashes totaled 329, while also qualifying as a team were Ursuline 333, Cardinal Mooney 334 and Hubbard 348.
The tournament’s individual medalist was Girard High senior Ryan King who shot 76 and was one of four individual qualifiers to advance who were not on a qualifying team. The other three included Brandon Bush of LaBrae with an 80, Logan Massacci of Lakeview with 82 and Bart Wyss of Salem with 83.
The top four teams and four individuals will advance to the Div. II district tournament next Tuesday at Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna.
Braceville Sectional
BRACEVILLE — Columbiana, Lowellville and United all earned team berths in next week’s Division III boys district golf tournament.
The Clippers, Rockets and Golden Eagles all finished among the top three teams Wednesday in the Div. III sectional tournament held here at Riverview Golf Course.
Columbiana led the way with a 346 total, while the Rockets finished second with 349 and United was third at 350. Individual medalist honors went to United’s Gage Chestnut with an 80.
Three individual players, not on a qualifying team, also qualified for next week’s district tournament which will be held Oct. 8 at Seven Hills Country Club in Hartville. They included Brandon Pulchinsky of South Range, who shot 82, Troy Dumbroski of McDonald also with 82 and Chase Leonelli of Springfield with 84.
Kent Sectional
KENT — Derek Rummell of Jackson-Milton and Payton Snyden of Western Reserve won individual qualifying spots in next week’s Division III boys district golf tournament at Seven Hills Country Club in Hartville.
The Blue Devils finished fourth in the team tournament and the Bluejays fifth, but only the top three teams advanced to next week’s district meet. Gilmour Academy won the tournament with a 322 score, 29 shots better than runnerup Fairport Harbor who had 351. St. Thomas Aquinas was third at 357.
Western Reserve finished at 359 and Jackson-Milton at 370.
