Disney on Ice event offers free tickets

YOUNGSTOWN — The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County and Disney On Ice are inviting children to the Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saturday for “100 Years of Magic and Libraries,” a holiday ornament-making event.

“Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic” will come to Covelli Centre for six performances Dec. 17-20.

Also marking its centennial is the Main Library building, which turns 100 in 2010.

The first 300 children who arrive with a parent or guardian Saturday will receive a free ticket voucher — redeemable at the Covelli box office — to the Disney on Ice opening night performance. Additionally, parents can enter a raffle to win a four-pack of tickets.

Ornament templates which celebrate both centennials will be available for children to decorate throughout the day. Crayons and decorations will be available. The ornaments will then be used to adorn trees at Main Library.

Tickets for Disney on Ice range from $12 to $42 and are available at the Covelli box office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000. Show times are 7 p.m. Dec. 17 and 18; 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 19; and 1 p.m. Dec. 20.

Vintage jewelry exhibit at Sutliff Museum

WARREN — An all-new vintage costume jewelry exhibit is on display at the Sutliff Museum through December.

Featuring styles from elegant Victorian to handmade copper to 1960s Monet, the collection has never been shown before. Turquoise and silver American Indian pieces contrast with glitzy rhinestones in brilliant color and jet-black glass and onyx. Bracelets from Thailand and Czechoslovakia show the difference in cultures and the range of ages of the pieces shows how styles in America have changed over the years.

The museum is open to the public at no cost from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and by appointment at other times. It is located on the second floor of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W.

Slovak, Hungarian CDs

YOUNGSTOWN — Magyar Marketing, a locally based import company, has released two new CDs for the holiday season: “Slovak Christmas Carols” and “Hungarian Christmas Carols.” Each CD features instrumental arrangements of 17 of the most popular Christmas carols from the respective countries. Each CD is a limited edition, as only 100 of each are being produced. For more information, call (330) 533-2831 or (800) 786-7851.

Sheet music with lyrics for piano, voice, guitar and other instruments is also available.

Kurtz, director of music at Living Lord Lutheran Church, Howland, will direct a chorus of 108 voices, four soloists, and an accompanying orchestra for a presentation of Handel’s “Messiah” on Dec. 6 at Blessed Sacrament Parish, corner of North and Reeves roads, Warren.
