Homeless Walk
YOUNGSTOWN — The second annual Homeless Walk is Tuesday beginning at 9:05 a.m. at the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, 962 Martin Luther King Blvd., and ending with a press conference at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Food Kitchen, 208 W. Front St. At the same time, Help Hotline Crisis Center will kick off its 2009-2010 Cold Weather Emergency Shelter Program
Tracking student lunches
BESSEMER, Pa. — A new technology available to the Mohawk Area School District allows parents to track what their children are buying in the school cafeteria.
The Web site, www.lunchprepay.com, gives a 45-day history of what students are buying for breakfast and lunch. The site encourages parents to stay involved with their child’s nutrition, the district says.
Christmas parade
EAST PALESTINE — The 2009 Christmas parade will be Saturday along Market Street. The event, sponsored by the East Palestine Moose Lodge 467, will begin at 2 p.m. at the city park. People interested in participating in the parade should be at the park at 1 p.m. The theme this year will be “An Old-Fashioned Christmas.”
School of Nursing
SHARON, Pa. — Tuesday is the last day to file an application for classes at Sharon Regional Health System’s School of Nursing that start in August 2010. The School of Nursing, located on the system’s campus at 740 E. State St., has been educating registered professional nurses since 1899.
Students complete all prerequisite college courses before admission, making the nursing program 16 months in length. The school has articulation agreements with Youngstown, Slippery Rock and Pennsylvania state universities.
A wide variety of programs are available to assist students with educational costs. The School of Nursing participates in the Federal Pell Grant and Stafford Loan programs. Students are eligible for state grants according to state of residence.
Dog supply drive
NORTH JACKSON — Northeast Ohio Labrador Retriever Rescue is having a dog supply drive through Dec. 20. Items needed include dog food, treats, toys, blankets, towels, paper towels and laundry detergent. Drop-off locations are First Federated Church on Mahoning Avenue and Gem-Young Insurance on state Route 45. Individuals who donate will be entered in a drawing for a holiday basket of goodies. ‘Evening with Santa’
STRUTHERS — “An Evening with Santa” is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at Mauthe Park.
Aqua Ohio will provide hot cider and doughnuts. Santa will arrive via firetruck.
