Two face charges

NEW WATERFORD — New Waterford Police Chief Dan Haueter said Wednesday he has warrants for the arrest of Sebastian Bragg, 14, of New Waterford, who ran away from home Nov. 18, and for Andrew Toarmina, 22, who has lived in the New Waterford area.

Haueter said that Bragg faces a charge of being unruly, which is a charge applicable to youths. Toarmina faces a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor.

The chief said that he does not believe there has been any foul play.

Christmas tour

LEETONIA — The 14th annual homespun Christmas tour will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Area artisans will offer hand-crafted wares including rugs and baskets, pottery, jams and jellies, candles, Amish furniture and quilts.

A door-prize drawing will be at each stop. A special drawing is planned for visitors who have a flier stamped at every stop. The first 10 visitors between 10 a.m. and noon Sunday will receive a free gift with purchase.

Agility trials set

WASHINGTONVILLE — The Youngstown All Breed Training Club AKC agility trials will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Four Seasons K9 Athlete Center, 2 Painters Path.

About 200 dogs are entered in the trial, which is free and open to the public. Agility is one of the fastest-growing dog sports in the United States, the Youngstown club says.

Agility is an athletic event that requires conditioning, concentration, training and teamwork. In an agility trial, a dog follows cues from the handler through a timed obstacle course of jumps, tunnels, weave poles and other objects.

Night of entertainment

BROOKFIELD — The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is sponsoring a night of entertainment from the Chords of Christmas, a local band playing the music of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 at Yankee Lake Ballroom, 1814 state Route 7, Brookfield.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and food and beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $10 at the door and $8 in advance at Yankee Lake Ballroom, New York Music in Boardman, Record Connection in Niles, Valley Piano and Organ in Hermitage, Pa., or by calling the Animal Welfare League at (330) 394-4122.

Candlelight vigil

YOUNGSTOWN — A candlelight vigil in memory of Andrew C. Culp will be at 5 p.m. Saturday near Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 300 E. Midlothian Blvd. Culp died last year at this time; he was the victim of a dragging death on Midlothian.

Trash pickup delayed

GIRARD — There will be a one-day delay in trash pickup throughout the city of Girard because of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Trash should be placed at the curb Friday evening for Saturday pickup.

Students charged with robbery

YOUNGSTOWN — Four East High School students are charged with robbery after an incident in the school’s gymnasium.

According to police, surveillance video shows four boys ranging in age from 14 to 16 chasing a 14-year-old boy around the gymnasium Tuesday afternoon. When the boys caught the victim, he was held down and $18 removed from his pockets.

The boys were all taken to the Mahoning County Juvenile justice Center.

Meeting in Salem

SALEM — Mayor Jerry Wolford will have an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in council chambers to discuss the Quaker City Super Nats Weekend Cruise that will be June 10-13, 2010.

The Quaker City cruise will replace the “After Party” — dining and drinking and other events — that had been offered after the Super Nats that had been at the Quaker City Raceway for several years. Wolford said anyone interested in the events is welcome to attend.
