Theory of a Deadman to perform in concert

AUSTINTOWN — Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Dec. 5 for a rock concert with Theory Of A Deadman and opening acts Cavo, Halestorm and Taking Dawn on Jan. 25 at Club Gossip (formerly The Wedge), 1743 S. Video-game league tourney

NILES — The newly formed Video Athletic League will sponsor an all-day tournament Saturday at Eastwood Expo Center. The best gamers in the region are invited to test their skills at "Call of Duty 4," "Madden 2010," "HALO 3" or "NBA 2K." All the games will be played on the X-Box 360 platform. The winner will receive up to $500 in Eastwood Mall Complex gift cards; second place, $250; third place, $200.

Registration can be completed in advance at videoathleticleague.net or in person at the expo center between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday. There is no registration fee. Doors will open at 10 a.m. Saturday, with competition beginning at noon and running until 10 p.m. Players as young as 8 may participate with written permission from their parents. Rocky Chirchiglia at annual variety show

YOUNGSTOWN — The annual variety show to benefit the Dom Leone Writing Competition will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Ursuline High School’s Deibel-Morley Art Center on Bryson Street. Entertainers will include Rocky Chirchiglia, The Spurs of the Moment, the Finelli School of Dance and more. There also will be a silent auction. A donation of $5 ($3 for students, free for children) is requested.

The writing competition for the city’s public and parochial students is in memory of Dom Leone, a fiction writer, songwriter, poet and cartoonist from Youngstown who died of cancer at age 29 in 1989. Monetary awards and gift certificates are given to winners in the categories of poetry, short stories and cartoons.

Chorus to present ‘Messiah’

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The New Castle Music Club Chorus will present Handel’s sacred oratorio “Messiah” at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, 1 Lucymont Drive in the city’s Mahoningtown section. Admission is free, but an offering will be accepted.

Show and sale at mall art gallery

NILES — Art Outreach Gallery’s annual Year End Show and Sale will open Friday and run through Jan. 3. It will feature artwork created by local students and adults.

The gallery, in Eastwood Mall between Sears and Macy’s, also will feature performances, sales and activities throughout the holiday season, including:
