YOUNGSTOWN — Covelli Centre is experimenting with a cabaret-style setting for Tuesday night’s “That’s Amore,” a show based on Dean Martin’s ’60s television specials.
Several dozen round tables will be set up on the floor in front of the stage, which will be pushed up close to the west end of the building. The tables, which each accommodate eight people, will provide seating for about 300. Because the stage will be moved up so far, only 900 fixed seats will be available for the show for a total capacity of 1,200.
Ticket-buyers do not have to buy the whole table, but there is a $5-per-ticket discount for those who do, said Bridget Wolsonovich, Covelli Centre’s marketing director. The tables are selling better than the seats, she noted.
A fruit-and-cheese plate and a minibottle of wine come with the $59.50 table seats.
Covelli Centre is promoting the show, which Wolsonovich called an experiment.
“We wanted to try a more intimate seating arrangement to open up more entertainment possibilities for the people of the Valley,” she said.
The star of “That’s Amore” is Mark Adams, who bears a resemblance to Martin and also captures the entertainer’s voice and charm. Adams recently completed a run as Dean Martin in “The Rat Pack” in London.
Martin’s popular TV show included the top guest stars of the day, who not only performed but went along with comic skits. His show featured The Golddiggers, an all-girl vocal band — who will be re-enacted for “That’s Amore.” His hit songs include “Memories Are Made Of This,” “Volare,” “Little Old Wine Drinker,” “Return to Me,” “Gentle on my Mind,” “Ain’t That A Kick” and “That’s Amore.”
