Recounts set in Columbiana Co.

STAFF REPORT

LISBON — The Columbiana County Board of Elections announced that it will have three mandatory vote-recounts at 9 a.m. Dec. 3.

In Salem’s at-large council race with three open seats, Councilman K. Bret Apple, a Democrat, and Brian Whitehill, a Republican, were the top vote-getters.

The recount will decide whether Joseph Radin Jr., a Republican with 1,427 votes, or Randall S. Colian, a Democrat, with 1,419 votes, will get the third at-large seat.

The at-large seats on council have been filled by Democrats for the last four years.

Adam Booth, the deputy director of the elections board, said Tuesday the recount had to be made because the margin between the two candidates is less than one half of one percent of the vote.

That margin also applies to the other races.

In the Leetonia Board of Education race, Michael Rulli and Thomas Eastek had the two highest votes. For the third open seat, John Rydarowicz had 752 votes in the official count while Danny Ferry had 743 votes.

The Beaver Local District has two open seats and Brad Buchheit received the most votes — 1,083.

Thomas A. Wolfe had 1,039 votes and Lance K. Schultz received 1,033 votes.
